Grana Padano: low-fat and full of goodness |
| |
Fat is the sworn enemy of anyone who wants to stay in shape, and consequently cheese is often regarded with suspicion.
Grana Padano, however, caters to these requirements. Nutritionists have defined it as a low-fat, light cheese because it is made with semi-skimmed milk and contains about 2% fat. Other cheeses contain up to 28% fat, which is a standard value in nutritional terms.
Furthermore, these fats are "healthy". Although Grana Padano is made of animal products, it contains more than 40% unsaturated fats, which are good for the human body, alongside a useful fraction of saturated fats; hence 50 g Grana Padano has an average cholesterol content of just 70 milligrams.
These properties ensure that Grana Padano is easy to digest, which makes it a fast-acting source of energy, with 384 calories in 100 g of cheese.
